Rutha was born January 9, 1939 to parents Mack Ellis and Catherine Lang-Ellis.
She attended Williams Elementary and Lincoln High Schools, Santa Fe Community College and University of Florida
Rutha was a retired Residential Services Supervisor at Tacachale formerly known as Sunland Training Center. She worked there for 30 years and touched many lives both resident and staff.
Rutha was a member of Mt. Olive AME Church and part of the Missionary Team, Steward Board, Choir, Lay Organization, and Food Ministry.
Rutha was a member of IBPOE of W Elks of the World- University City Temple #900 formerly holding the offices of Past State President, Past Grand Daughter Ruler, Member of Orange Blossom Council – District 1 Member of the Leonard G. Wilson Company “G” Antler Guard,
Black Hat Diva Society and The Red Hat Society
Rutha was affectionately called “BB” by some of her family members. She loved being with her family and baking her famous Sour Cream Pound Cakes
Rutha was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Andrew W. Brown, Jr; Parents Mack Ellis and Catherine Lang-Ellis; Brothers Herbert Ellis and Mack Ellis, Jr.
Rutha leaves behind to cherish her memories: Son, Clifford Germaine Ferguson (Pamela); Grandsons, Eric Germaine Ferguson and Clifford Gerrod Ferguson; Great Granddaughter, Dymond Ferguson and Great Grandson, Jourden Ferguson; A most Beloved and Devoted Sister, Edwina “Tina” Smith (Walter E. Smith – Deceased), all of Gainesville, FL; Stepdaughter, Pamela Brown-Daniels (Lee) of Carrington, GA., Daughter In-Law, Joyce Brown (Andrew W. Brown III – Deceased) of Douglasville, GA; Sister In-Law, Yvonne Brown (James Brown – Deceased) of Sarasota, FL; Godchildren, Joyce and Jimmy Daniels, Oriska Singleton and Rosetta Branch of Gainesville, FL., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and sorrowing friends
