Anne Shockey Irwin, 64, died peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024. Anne is survived by her
husband, Philip; children Leah and Joseph; daughter-in-law Amanda; granddaughter Ashlyn;
stepdaughter Kara Hernandez; brothers Gerald, David, Michael, and Robert Shockey; and her
nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Audley Shockey.
Anne was born in Miami, Florida, in 1960. After graduating high school in 1978, Anne attended
her first year of college in Ohio, transferred to the University of Florida for general education,
and then graduated from Santa Fe College with an Associate in Science in 1983. Anne moved to
Micanopy, Florida, in 1983, where her career began as volunteer for the Micanopy Fire
Department and then, as a paramedic firefighter for the Alachua County Fire Rescue, continuing
there until 1995. Anne worked as a Registered Nurse at UF Health Shands Hospital until 2000,
when she transferred to vascular and cardiovascular surgery at Malcom Randal Department of
Veterans Affairs Medical Center until she retired to her and Philip’s farm in 2020.
In her personal life, Anne was an avid horsewoman. Outside of caring for her horses and
gardening, Anne loved crafting – including stained glass and needlework.
Anne was beloved by her family, friends, and coworkers. Her marriage to Philip was 38 years of
cherished memories and unconditional love. She is remembered for her unwavering commitment
to her family, dedication to her patients, and passion for caregiving to both animals and people.
