Cecelia Ann Thornton (Lawton) passed away soundly on the afternoon of November 5, 2024. She won her first battle with Cancer but it returned 6 years later and she succumbed to the disease. She is survived by her children Lasana Smith, Naimah Ali, Omara Ali and 7 beautiful grandchildren.
Cecelia “CeCe” was born on January 24, 1948 in Alachua County, Newberry Florida, to Claronelle Jordan and William Lawton. Her siblings and parents were laid to rest before her but she is survived by their wonderful children and their grandchildren spanning 3 generations. The majority reside between Peoria Illinois and Alachua County Florida. She is also survived by her godmother, residing in Newberry Florida.
Cecelia attended University in Atlanta Georgia and later became a registered radiologic (x-ray) technician and worked in the medical field as a home caregiver for most of her adult life.
Cecelia loved music, particularly Soul, Blues and R&B. Her favorites were Anita Baker, Nina Simone, Cece Winans, Bobby Blue Bland, Little Milton and Johnnie Taylor, amongst many.
CeCe was an avid cook and grew vegetable gardens throughout her youth. She had a green thumb and loved flowers and growing indoor plants.
With a quick and witty sense of humor, she made friends easily and was a lifelong learner. She lived her life as a consistent reader. When you saw her, there was a book near. She loved art and was a talented flutist and jewelry maker.
There will be no services for Mrs. Thornton. The family has ask that you leave a thoughtful memory.
