Gone but never forgotten Betty Stockton Walker April 17, 1946 - February 25, 2019

Betty Stockton Walker was born on April 17th,1946 in Chiefland, Florida. She was the second child born to U.L. Gamble and Lillie Mae Gamble (Gent). She was proceeded in death by her parents and husbands Alphonso Stockton for 24yrs. (divorced) and Wiley Walker for 12yrs. Two brothers Ulysses Gamble and Jerry Gamble. Betty departed this Life to be with the Lord on February 25th, 2019 at North Fla. Regional Hosp. in Gainesville, Fl. She was baptized at an early age at Mt. Erie Baptist Church, Hardeetown, Fl. A faithful and long-time member of The New Jerusalem Church of God and currently attending Mt. Pleasant Baptist in Chiefland, Fl. Betty, started her education at the Chiefland Elementary School, after graduating 9th grade she finished High School at Williston Vocational High School in 1963, in Williston, Fl. Her Career and Service: Betty began her work career after graduating at BETTS BIG T Restaurant. She later moved to New York and started a new career as a domestic worker, while working that job she was able to attend a trade school and become an operation room tech. at the Harlem Hosp. in New York. The longing for home and the country life she returned to Chiefland in the mid-'70s. After her return she worked a variety of jobs: As a Crab Picker for Otter Creek, Steinhatchee and Chiefland Crab Co. As a cook in serval different restaurants in Gainsville, a construction work with her husband Alphonso Stockton, several years at the Levy County Health Dept, and Tacachale Center, in Gainsville. In 1981, she began working for Levy ARC as an aide and worked her way up the Director of Levy ARC. This is the place she loved and dedicated 38 years of Service to. She received many awards for outstanding service. She retired on January 31, 2019. Her tenure with the City of Chiefland began as a City Commissioner in 1997 and served until 2007, was re-elected in 2013 until the present. Served as Vice Mayor from Sept.1999 to Sept. 2000. Sept. 2004 to Sept. 2006. Sept. 2014 to Sept 2016. As Mayor from Sept. 2000 to 2002, Sept. 2003 to Sept. 2004, Sept. 2006 to Sept. 2007, Sept 2016 to present. She loved to serve the citizens of Chiefland. Betty loved her family, she was the life of every family gathering always had something funny to say, loved fishing, cooking, and loved to eat crab and turnip greens. You were always welcomed to her home to enjoy a good meal and talk. She could always keep us laughing. Walker, North Carolina. 2 Brothers: Willie Jack Gamble and Wilbert Gamble (Barbara) Chiefland, Fl., A host of nieces, Nephews, Other relatives, Friends, and those most affectionately regarded at the City of Chiefland and Levy ARC.
